Living in one place, it´s sometimes not that easy to imagine that life could be different in other countries, that cultures and people there can be different too. For me, it´s a great change every time I leave Europe. While staying in Bangkok I discovered so many things that were new and different for me. That is why I decided to write some of them down and this blog post is the result of what I discovered on my trip.
Bangkok – the city of huge contrasts
Bangkok embodies two completely different worlds. The first one is luxurious and glamorous. The second one, on the contrary, very poor. But somehow these two worlds cohabit with each other. The reason for that may probably be the calmness and contentment of the Thais. The difference between the luxurious world and the poor one is huge, as the rich are able to purchase almost everything. By the way, the rich in Asia are even richer than in Europe or the USA. One needs much more money as Asian countries have the so-called luxury tax, that means that every brand costs much more in these countries than in Europe. The poor do not have such possibilities and sometimes live in tiny and old cabins, which definitely don´t look like a house of the 21st century. Nonetheless, both rich and poor seem to live peacefully near each other in this metropole, which is certainly also based on every Thai’s love to the king and the king’s family. By the way the whole country is actually in mourning after the beloved king passed away.
Fashion & style
I pay my attention to beauty and fashion first of all (of course after architecture and culture of the place I visit). My Bangkok stay wasn´t an exception. I was blown away by all the stylish and feminine outfits of the Thai women. Such things as lace, bows and sparkling elements are very popular there. As the Thai women mostly have nice, very slim bodies, they love to wear feminine dresses which accentuate their perfect shape. I also met many girls wearing high heels while walking or doing shopping. They all are constantly trying to show themselves from the best side. As I love lace pieces, I couldn´t leave the city without purchasing something special. I learned so many new labels and fell in love with their feminine designs, sewn to make your body even prettier as it really is.
Makeup & skin care
As I already mentioned in my travel blog post from Bangkok, in this city you can get everything you want. For those of you who love makeup, Bangkok is a paradise. The Thai women pay much attention to how they look and experiment with their makeup. The most important thing for them is the perfect complexion. I have to admit that many of them manage to do it really great, as their complexion looks so flawless without any imperfections to be seen. Another interesting point is that some makeup products are used not only by women but also by men. So, “brows on point” are important and popular both for women and men.
As for skin care products in Bangkok, there are thousands of them. You could get just one problem. 80% of them or even more are supposed to whiten the skin, which is super trendy in Thailand. Whitening creams, face masks or body lotions are everywhere. Probably, the Thais want to be more like Europeans with their pale skin and that´s why they use such skin care products so actively.
Cult of Europe
Many Thais want to look like Europeans and try everything to succeed in this issue. You can see it on the way what they wear, how they style their hair and even on numerous advertising posters in the city, where many European models advertise some Thai labels.
These were some interesting facts or observations I made while staying in Bangkok. Of course, there are many more differences between Europe and Asia. But I think that these differences in culture, the way of living and mentality make traveling so great. I love to discover other places, meet new people, and see something for the first time. Bangkok gave me a lot of these things.
